Apple may now be ready to take its high-refresh-rate ProMotion display technology outside the "Pro" family. According to a recent tip from famed Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station, the forthcoming iPhone 17 series might include ProMotion on all models. If accurate, this would be a significant departure from Apple's habit of reserving the smooth 120Hz refresh rate for premium products.
LTPO Panels for All Models
The report suggests a considerable advance in display technology, with Apple potentially equipping all iPhone 17 variants with LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) panels. This differs from the LTPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon) screens used in the iPhone 15 and 16 series, which are limited to a 60Hz refresh rate.
LTPO panels not only offer a fast refresh rate, but they also improve power efficiency and allow for always-on display capabilities. This would allow users to quickly monitor alerts, time, and widgets without having to unlock their phones.

Notably, Apple expert Ross Young predicts that both the iPhone 17 and the speculated iPhone 17 "Air" would include ProMotion OLED screens.
